Suppliers can change their products at any time, or run out of inventory for a period of time. When this happens, then you need to find a replacement product and override your product to place it with a new supplier.

Find replacement products

When a product you're selling becomes out of stock, then you need to look for a replacement product and override your old product with the replacement product from another supplier. By doing this, you're still able to continue selling this product in your Shopify store, but just using another supplier.

You can use the AliExpress Dropshipping Center to find a replacement product using a product image. To use the AliExpress Dropshipping Center, you need to have an AliExpress account.

Steps:

  1. Go to the AliExpress Dropshipping Center and log into your AliExpress account.

  2. Follow the prompts to agree with the terms and conditions.

  3. Go to Products > Find Products to Sell.

  4. Go to Search by image tab and click Upload image.

  5. Upload an image of your product that is out of stock. You can download your product image from your Shopify admin.

  6. Review similar products and click the product that you want to replace with.

After you find a replacement product, then you need to override your out-of-stock product with the replacement product.


Manage orders with out-of-stock products

If you have any orders with out-of-stock products, then you need to find a replacement product and override your old product. After that, you can place your orders with a new supplier.

If you can't find a replacement product, then you should do the following actions:

  1. Cancel orders that contain out-of-stock products in Shopify.

  2. Issue refunds to your customers.

  3. Delete out-of-stock products from your Shopify admin.


Adjust product availability settings

You can adjust your auto updates settings to automatically unpublish out-of-stock products or set their quantity to zero. This prevents your customers from buying out-of-stock products.

Steps:

  1. From your Oberlo admin, go to Settings > General.

  2. Scroll down to the Auto updates section.

  3. In the When product is no longer available and When variant is no longer available sections, select Unpublish Product or Set Quantity to Zero.

  4. Optional: Check Notify Me, to receive notifications on the Notifications page about out-of-stock products.

  5. Click SAVE SETTINGS.
